Hz PLUS – PERFORATED PLASTERBOARD SYSTEM

Perforated plasterboard for a seamless ceiling on timber and steel battens

Hz Plus is an acoustic ceiling that looks like an ordinary plasterboard ceiling. Perforated plasterboard with acoustic fleece is fixed to timber or steel battens and finished with Hz Acoustic Plaster instead of paint. The result is the same homogeneous, white surface, but with effective sound absorption in the construction. Installation follows the fitter’s usual sequence.

Built like an ordinary plasterboard ceiling

Hz Plus is fixed to timber or steel battens with staggered joints, exactly like a conventional plasterboard ceiling. No new construction, and no added build-up height beyond the 15 mm the board and plaster take up together. The difference lies in the board and the finish – not in the process.

That makes Hz Plus the obvious choice in new-build and refurbishment where the plasterboard ceiling is already specified. The acoustics come with it, with no rethink of the ceiling construction.

INSTALLATION GUIDE

How to install Hz Plus acoustic panels

Installation is split between two trades. The project’s carpenter puts the boards up in the sequence already planned for the plasterboard ceiling. The acoustic contractor then takes over the surface.

Preparing the battens

Timber or steel battens are built up to carry the boards and the mechanical fixing. The cavity behind the boards is best filled with insulation.

Screwing up the boards

The boards are screwed up with screws suited to the substrate and fixed with staggered joints. The acoustic fleece faces downwards and forms the surface.

Filling the joints

Joints, edges and screw holes are filled so the surface is ready for plastering. From here the acoustic contractor takes over.

Acoustic plaster as the finish

Hz Acoustic Plaster is sprayed onto the whole ceiling in three coats, concealing the perforations. Hz Acoustic Plaster 03 is then sanded completely smooth.

Technical integrations

Spotlights, lighting tracks, ventilation and curtain tracks are built directly into the ceiling during installation. Hz Plus is designed to house them discreetly.

THE DECISIVE FINISH

Hz Acoustic Plaster – the seamless finish

Hz Acoustic Plaster is the finish that ties Hz Plus together. It is sprayed across the whole ceiling and is acoustically transparent; sound passes freely through to the acoustic board behind. With Hz Acoustic Plaster 03 the surface is sanded at the end to a completely smooth finish.

This is what sets Hz Plus apart from conventional acoustic ceilings: the surface looks like an ordinary ceiling but performs like an acoustic ceiling. Hz Acoustic Plaster can be maintained, repaired and transformed – and it keeps the ceiling looking good for years.

INDICATIVE PRICES

What does an Hz Plus acoustic ceiling cost?

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Hz Plus acoustic plasterboard

Do you have a question that is not answered below?

See our general FAQ or contact us directly.

The construction is the same: boards on battens with staggered joints. The difference: the Hz Plus board is perforated and backed with acoustic fleece, and the ceiling is finished with acoustic plaster instead of paint. Visually the result is a smooth, white plasterboard ceiling. Acoustically it is a different room.

The extra cost is the difference between an ordinary plasterboard and a perforated acoustic board, and between paint and acoustic plaster. The construction and the work sequence are the same, so no extra ceiling is added to the budget. See the indicative prices above.

The boards are fixed by the carpenter attached to the project, as part of the work sequence already planned for the plasterboard ceiling. An Hz Acoustic installer then takes over the ceiling surface and carries out the filling and plastering. The acoustics therefore add no new trade to the programme.

Both systems give the same smooth, seamless ceiling. The difference is in sound absorption, build-up and price. Hz Dual has a thicker absorbent layer and gives higher sound absorption. Hz Plus builds lower, sits in an ordinary plasterboard ceiling on battens and is the cheaper of the two. Where the project sets specific reverberation requirements, Hz Dual is usually the answer. Where a good acoustic ceiling is enough, Hz Plus is the simpler, cheaper route. See indicative prices for both systems under Price.

Hz Acoustic Plaster 03 gives a smooth, sanded surface and the most even absorption across the whole frequency range, including the speech range. Hz Acoustic Plaster 09 gives a textured surface and absorbs more strongly in the low mid-range. The choice should follow the function of the room. Contact us for advice.

Yes. Neither the acoustic boards nor Hz Acoustic Plaster absorb moisture, so the system can be used in damp rooms such as bathrooms, wellness areas and pool areas. The surface should not be exposed to direct water, as this can leave marks in the plaster. This applies to both Hz Acoustic Plaster 03 and 09.

Yes. One of the major advantages of Hz Acoustic Plaster is the option of local repair. Damage can be repaired locally and even transformed completely if a different color or texture is required.

PROJECTS

Hz Plus in practice

Hz Plus is used in architect-designed homes, offices and refurbishments that keep the classic plasterboard ceiling as an expression, but not as a sound environment. Here is a selection of our projects.
