The listed Skindpakhuset of 1806 on Christianshavn has been converted into four boutique hotel apartments. The ceilings between the exposed beams are built in Hz Flex 017-R and finished with Hz Acoustic Plaster 03 by our partner DK Akustik Øst.
Fully listed – every beam must be kept
The renovation was carried out by the architect David Thulstrup in close cooperation with the Danish Agency for Culture and Palaces. In a fully listed building nothing may be lost, and the many exposed beams had to stay visible, also after acoustics were built into the ceilings.
15 mm between the beams
Hz Flex 017-R is a flexible panel of recycled foam just 15 mm thick. The low build-up makes it possible to place acoustics between the beams without the ceiling becoming dominant.
The ceilings are finished with Hz Acoustic Plaster 03, which gives a smooth, white surface. It merges with the other plastered surfaces and lets the restored materials come forward.
New and old in conversation
David Thulstrup has worked with a restricted palette of materials – among them Dinesen planks, Sørensen leather and Finnish granite – with the ambition of bringing the future into the past without imitating it.
The property was developed by Falk-Rønne & Kierkegaard in cooperation with Artha.
