Vipp Chimney House in Nordhavn was built in 1902 as a water pumping station and is a guesthouse today, converted by Studio David Thulstrup. The ceilings are built in Hz Basic 007 and finished with Hz Acoustic Plaster 03.
8.5 metres to the ceiling
The main room has 8.5 metres to the ceiling and an open view of the old chimney through a large rooflight. Together with steel, terrazzo and glass, that gives a room where sound carries easily – also when someone is cooking in the open kitchen.
One calm surface above steel and terrazzo
Hz Basic 007 is a 49 mm acoustic panel glued directly onto a solid substrate. The ceiling is finished with Hz Acoustic Plaster 03, which gives a smooth, even surface with no visible joints or seams.
The curtain tracks are built into the ceiling, so they disappear into the surface and do not disturb the stringent lines.
A guesthouse you can check into
Studio David Thulstrup has kept the building’s industrial character and curated everything from the curved, steel-framed doors and purpose-made terrazzo floors to the art and the Vipp products. Vipp describes its own guesthouses as design experiences you can check into.
