Hz Acoustic i podcasten Drømmevillaen, episode 19

Our managing director, Helge Hansen, joins Denmark’s most popular self-build podcast, Drømmevillaen. Together with Morten Dalum he digs into reverberation, acoustic ceilings and why the sound at home means so much for how we feel. At the end, Helge offers a piece of advice to everyone about to build new.

Why do good acoustics at home matter?

Many new houses have large, open rooms, hard floors and large expanses of glass. It looks good, but the sound has nothing to be absorbed into. It is thrown around between the surfaces and hangs in the room as reverberation.

The result is a home where voices, kitchen noise and the children playing run together into noise. People talk louder to be heard, and it becomes harder to hold a conversation at the dinner table. It is felt above all in the kitchen-living area, where the family gathers.

The ceiling is often the largest free surface in the room. That makes it an effective place to tame the reverberation, without filling the room with wall panels, rugs or heavy furniture.

What is good sound?

One of the big questions in the episode is exactly that: what is good sound? Many people think good sound means all reverberation has to be removed. But a room with no reverberation at all can feel uncomfortable, and it makes people talk louder to compensate.

The aim is balance. An acoustic ceiling from Hz Acoustic tames the reverberation, so you get good speech intelligibility day to day. You can still hear the children playing, but the sound does not become a disturbance.

Acoustic ceilings without compromise

At Hz Acoustic we believe good acoustics and good looks go hand in hand. Many traditional acoustic solutions have visible joints, seams or perforations that disturb the look. Our acoustic systems combine acoustic panels and acoustic plaster, so the ceiling stands smooth and seamless:

The result is a beautiful ceiling and markedly better sound comfort, without compromising the design. Spotlights and other fittings can be built in, so nothing breaks the clean look.

Ask your builder for it

When you build new, you have the right to make demands. Some builders may say: “That cannot be done.” But many solutions can be done perfectly well if you insist.

If you have fallen for a smooth acoustic ceiling, ask for it to be part of your project. We work with Lind & Risør, HusCompagniet, HHM, Menzer & Kristensen, Milton Huse and Uldum Huse, among others.

The ceilings have a long life and can be repaired and renewed along the way. If you want a quote with no obligation, find an Hz Partner in your area.
