With the new national architecture policy, three ministries set the direction for the building of the future in Denmark. The message is clear: we have to build with care. At Hz Acoustic we welcome the policy, because several of its principles sit close to the way we already develop acoustic ceilings.

A policy focused on sustainability, transformation and quality

The national architecture policy was presented on 10 November 2025 by the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing, and the Ministry of Cities and Rural Districts. It is to serve as a reference point for municipalities, clients and professionals.

The policy is broad: from more nature in the cities and better planning to the preservation of cultural heritage and a wider range of housing. But it is just as much about craft and material knowledge, about circular solutions, and about taking better care of the buildings we already have.

The Minister for Culture, Jakob Engel-Schmidt, sums it up: “We have to build with care.” The Minister for Social Affairs and Housing, Sophie Hæstorp Andersen, is just as clear: “Demolition should always be the last resort.”

Three principles, one shared mission

The policy contains eight principles for the architecture of the future. Our acoustic ceilings work above all with the first three.

#1 Put care and beauty first

A beautiful room is not only something you see. It is also something you experience through calm, comfortable acoustics and materials that suit the architecture of the room. Our seamless acoustic ceilings are developed to be part of the architecture, not a compromise. They:

  • tame the reverberation, so the room is more comfortable to be in and to talk in
  • stand as a clean, calm surface with no visible joints or perforations
  • can be used in homes, offices, institutions and public buildings

Care is also about the craft. The panels are produced in Frederikshavn, and the ceilings are installed and plastered by our Hz Partners, who are trained by us.

#2 Maintain, renovate and transform

One of the policy’s strongest messages is that demolition should be the last resort. We have to keep and transform more, and build less that is new. Our acoustic ceilings fit exactly that kind of project:

  • Hz Basic is glued directly onto an existing ceiling of concrete or plasterboard.
  • With Hz Renovare, acoustic plaster is sprayed directly onto an existing acoustic ceiling, for instance a wood wool ceiling that has darkened. The old ceiling does not have to come down.
  • Damage is repaired locally, and the surface can be re-plastered in a new colour or texture instead of being replaced.

That makes it possible to improve both the acoustics and the look of older buildings with a limited intervention, for instance in schools, cultural buildings and older homes. At Nordstens Hus in Hillerød the acoustic ceilings are set in between the exposed beams, so the building’s history stands untouched.

#3 Build circular

The policy wants to promote circular methods and bio-based materials. For us, this is what that looks like in practice:

  • Hz Acoustic Plaster 09 is made with upcycled textile waste – sheets and covers from a local laundry.
  • Hz Acoustic Plaster 03 is based on cellulose fibres.
  • A ceiling that can be repaired and re-plastered does not have to be replaced when the look is to be renewed.

Claims about circularity have to be documented. That is why EPDs to EN 15804+A2 exist for Hz Basic/Hz Dual, Hz Plus and Hz Acoustic Plaster 09, so architects and consultants can work with real figures in their LCA. The documents are on our download page.

Hz Acoustic’s role in the architecture of the future

The architecture policy makes it clearer that material producers have a part to play. Aesthetics, indoor climate and the choice of materials have to hang together, and that goes for the ceiling too.

We see the policy as:

  • a confirmation of the direction we have chosen, with repairable ceilings and recycled materials in the plaster
  • an invitation to work closely with architects, municipalities and contractors

A national architecture policy and a shared responsibility

The policy underlines that the solutions are not to be dictated from Christiansborg but found locally: in the municipalities, among the consultants and among the professionals who build Denmark every day. We would like to be an active partner in that work, both with products and with documentation that can be used in the design phase.

The future is being built now, and it has to be built with care

The architecture policy sets the direction. At Hz Acoustic we contribute acoustic ceilings that can be laid over existing ceilings, repaired instead of replaced, and documented with EPDs.
