Can you paint a wood wool ceiling? In theory yes. In practice it is hard to do without reducing the acoustics, and paint does not solve the problem if the ceiling is dark right into the texture or has started to shed. With Hz Acoustic Plaster 09, the wood wool ceiling gets a new surface while the acoustics are kept.

Can you paint a wood wool ceiling?

Wood wool panels, which many people know by the name Troldtekt, can be painted according to the manufacturers. But it takes the right paint, thin coats and the right technique, and few people get it entirely right. Wood wool tames the sound because the surface is open and porous. If the panels get too much paint, the texture is closed, and the ceiling then absorbs less sound. That cannot be undone afterwards.

At the same time, paint only gives a new colour. The coarse texture is the same, and paint does not solve the problem if the panels have started to shed.

Why does wood wool go dark?

Wood wool has a very open and rough surface. Over the years the ceiling works almost as a filter, collecting dust, cooking fumes and particles from smoke and wood burners. The dirt settles deep in the texture of the panels and makes the ceiling look dark, grey and patchy.

Hz Acoustic Plaster 09 straight onto the wood wool ceiling

With Hz Renovare, an installer trained by us sprays Hz Acoustic Plaster 09 straight onto the existing wood wool ceiling. The plaster covers what is dark and patchy, and the ceiling stands white and even again with a homogeneous, textured surface. The plaster can also be tinted, so the ceiling can be black, for instance.

  • The acoustics are kept. The plaster is acoustically transparent, so the sound passes through to the wood wool behind. Measurements show that the sound absorption even improves slightly.
  • Nothing comes down. The old ceiling stays up, and there is no construction waste.
  • Carried out by professionals. The plaster is sprayed on by an installer trained by us, so the result does not depend on getting the paint right.

Paint or acoustic plaster – which should you choose?

Paint can give a wood wool ceiling a new colour, but it is hard to do without compromising the acoustics. With Hz Acoustic Plaster 09 the ceiling gets a new, even surface, the acoustics are kept, and the work is carried out by an installer trained by us.
