Acoustic panels in historic surroundings: Smooth acoustic ceiling for Kuglegården

Kuglegården - Mogens de Linde

Acoustic panels in historic surroundings: Smooth acoustic ceiling for Kuglegården When you step into the newly restored buildings at Kuglegården on Holmen, you immediately sense a unique combination of history and modernity. Behind the renovation is Byggeselskab Mogens de Linde, which, with great respect and care for the original structure, has brought the former naval arsenal from 1741 back to life. Where cannonballs once lay neatly arranged in the courtyard, modern companies now occupy the space, many of them working in design and technology. In this transformation from naval base to creative business environment, Hz Acoustic has supplied smooth acoustic ceilings that both support the functionality of the rooms and preserve their original architectural details. Our skilled installer, DK Akustik, handled the installation, mounting, and plastering work. Smooth acoustic ceiling without hiding history One of the most striking and historically valuable features of Kuglegården is its many visible ceiling beams. They carry the building’s history and give the rooms character and authenticity. It was therefore essential that the acoustic solution did not draw attention away from or conceal these historical details. Our Hz Basic 001 acoustic panels, combined with Hz Acoustic Plaster 03, were the ideal choice. With a total thickness of just around 32 mm, the panels could be placed between the beams, allowing the original structures to remain clearly visible. The result is a smooth acoustic ceiling that integrates seamlessly into the architecture and creates visual calm without compromising the building’s expression. Adapted to an uneven foundation In a listed building from the mid-1700s, nothing is perfectly straight – and this is especially true of the ceilings. Here, our solution shows another advantage: Hz Basic panels are flexible and can adapt to the shape of the substrate. This made it possible to create a uniform, joint-free, and smooth ceiling, even where the surfaces have slight variations and curves. This feature makes our acoustic panels ideal for restoration projects where one seeks modern comfort and functionality without compromising the building’s original structure and aesthetic integrity. Modern acoustics in historic buildings Kuglegården’s new role as offices and showrooms places high demands on acoustics. Large rooms with hard surfaces and historical materials can easily create sound challenges. With our solution, the acoustics are now excellent – without the visual expression being affected. Users experience a pleasant and calm sound environment that makes it easy to concentrate, collaborate, and spend time in the rooms for longer periods. A project carried out with care The restoration of Kuglegården was completed, as Mogens de Linde himself puts it, “with both work gloves and velvet gloves.” It’s about care, knowledge, and quality in every step. We are proud to have contributed to the project with an acoustic solution that lives up to those same principles. Our acoustic panels and smooth acoustic ceilings are created specifically for projects like this – where aesthetics and function must be united in respect for history. Divine calm with Hz Flex acoustic ceiling

Hz Acoustic, Tiny Office and Aarhus Vestre Provsti, Hz Flex

Divine calm with Hz Flex acoustic ceiling – Flexible acoustic panels create peace in motion How do you build a church that can be moved, inspire reflection, and invite presence – all at once? That is the question that Tiny Office and Aarhus Vestre Provsti have answered with a unique project: a mobile church where faith, presence, and sustainability come together in a single space – and where good acoustics have been an integral part of the concept from the very beginning. The church, built in Aarhus, is made from Scandinavian materials, including both recycled and newly developed products. The mobile structure is not only a practical solution but also an architectural story about how the modern church space can be shaped and experienced in new ways. And with Hz Acoustic’s flexible acoustic panels installed on both walls and ceilings, it has been possible to create a calm and harmonious sound experience – even when on the move. Flexible acoustic panels – perfect for organic shapes For the church, we supplied Hz Flex 017, a 15 mm thick flexible foam acoustic panel ideal for complex surfaces. It can be installed on convex, concave, and organically curved surfaces, making it the perfect choice for Tiny Office’s innovative and curved church design. Hz Flex 017 is lightweight, adaptable, and easy to work with, and when combined with our Hz Acoustic Plaster 03, the result is an acoustic ceiling and wall surface with a smooth finish free from visible joints or seams. The outcome is a calm, uniform surface that allows the room’s form and function to flow freely – without disturbing either the eye or the ear. Acoustic ceiling with minimal loss of height An important consideration in the project was achieving an acoustic ceiling with minimal loss of ceiling height. Since a mobile church offers limited space, it was essential to select a solution that optimizes both acoustics and spatial perception. With a thickness of only 15 mm, Hz Flex 017 is one of the most space-saving solutions available. At the same time, it provides impressive sound absorption, making it ideal for compact spaces where acoustic quality remains a priority. A space for reflection – wherever it is placed As Provost Esben Andersen from Aarhus Vestre Provsti explains: “We want people to come to the church, but as a church, we also want to be present and relevant to people. This is one way we can reach out to where people are.” The church becomes a tool for communication and presence – and with the right acoustic ceiling, it also becomes a space where silence and reflection can find room. This is not only a technical achievement but also a sensory enhancement that makes the experience more complete. Would you like to create calm in complex spaces or work with organic forms? Everyone has a right to good acoustics

Hz Acoustic Akustikloft hos Arbejdermuseet i København

Everyone has a right to good acoustics This article is written by Frank Ulstrup for Byggematerialer.dk nr. 116 (24. november, 2022). In 2015, Hz Acoustic ApS set out to develop high-quality acoustic systems that everyone could afford. Today, the company supplies systems for everywhere from regular homes to Christiansborg – including the Workers’ Museum in Copenhagen. Since 1879, protest songs have been sung, and countless rousing speeches have been delivered in the old assembly hall of the labor movement – now the Workers’ Museum on Rømersgade in Copenhagen. But it’s not certain that it sounded as good as it does today, now that the central parts of the building have just been restored. In addition to fresh paint and a new lighting and indoor climate system, several rooms have also been fitted with acoustic ceilings that reduce reverberation by 70-80%. A sustainable solution And that is far from insignificant when hosting fiery speeches – or, as is the case with the museum today, welcoming lively school classes, says Helge Hansen from the Frederikshavn-based company, Hz Acoustic ApS. His company provided the solution – and a solution was certainly needed: – I can hardly imagine what the acoustics were like in there before, with all those large, hard surfaces,” he says with a smile, explaining that the current solution, Hz Dual, consists of panels and plaster developed by the company itself: – At the Workers’ Museum, we have chosen an acoustic panel consisting of a mineral wool board laminated with a specially designed 10 mm waterproof glass granulate board. In addition, there is the acoustic plaster, which is made from recycled cellulose fibers and has an extremely fine surface. Together, this solution not only provides excellent acoustic properties but also creates a completely smooth surface that is very easy to repair,” he explains 20 years experience Helge Hansen explains that he has worked with acoustic solutions for more than 20 years, but it was only seven years ago that he founded Hz Acoustic. Since then, he and his team have been working to develop solutions that are not only better but also more affordable than those already on the market. And looking at the company’s reference list, it seems they have achived their goal. Numerous buildings in Norway and Germany – as well as wide range of projects in Denmark – have had their acoustics improved using various Hz systems. Better acoustics for everyone Helge Hansen points to several key factors when explaining the success: “Our goal has really been to make good acoustic solutions financially accessible to everyone, and with a price per square meter for an installed panel ranging from 500 to 1000 DKK + VAT, I think we have succeeded,” he says, continuing: “Additionally, it’s of course a sustainable product, cellulose-based, and therefore doesn’t pollute or burden the environment in the same way as, for example, quartz-based alternatives. I believe this is also one of the reasons why our products are in high demand when it comes to listed and heritage buildings,” says Helge Hansen. READ ALSO

Job satisfaction with a new acoustic ceiling in Storm Carpet’s new showroom

Arbejdsglæde med nyt akustikloft i Storm Carpets nye showroom – An acoustic ceiling made of upcycled foam creates better acoustics and greater job satisfaction At Storm Carpet in Nørrebro, aesthetics, textiles, and tactile surfaces are part of everyday life. In this stylish showroom, architects and designers meet to be inspired by a wide selection of carpets, curtains, upholstery fabrics, and wall coverings. But when several creative minds gather in the same space, the acoustics must keep up – and that became a challenge. Storm Carpet’s showroom is located in a converted drive-through with high ceilings and many hard cement surfaces. This creates a raw, industrial atmosphere – but unfortunately also poor acoustics. Sound bounced between the walls and the floor, and when two conversations took place at once, one would quickly drown in echo. Flexible acoustic panels with environmental awareness The solution was Hz Flex 019-R – a flexible acoustic panel made from 100% upcycled PU foam. The panels are only 20 mm thick, making them ideal for an acoustic ceiling with minimal loss of ceiling height. That was crucial in the tall space, where the architecture and sense of openness had to be preserved. The acoustic panels were finished with Hz Acoustic Plaster 03, creating a completely smooth and uniform surface without visible joints or seams. The result? A discreet, almost invisible acoustic ceiling that doesn’t steal attention from the textile collections but is clearly felt in everyday use. From disturbing echo to a functional showroom CEO Anders Storm explains: “Our showroom in Nørrebro is located in a converted drive-through, with high ceilings and many hard cement surfaces. It looks great but unfortunately creates poor acoustics – especially when several people are gathered. We were recommended Hz Acoustic and received friendly and professional guidance. The result has exceeded all our expectations.” He highlights how the ceiling height has barely been reduced and how the previously disturbing echo has been transformed into calm and improved job satisfaction. The change has also opened up new possibilities for using the showroom – for larger gatherings and meetings alike. “If you’re facing similar challenges – or simply want to improve your work environment – I highly recommend inviting Hz Acoustic into your project considerations.” A ceiling with more than one purpose At Hz Acoustic, we’re proud to contribute to both better sound and sustainable solutions. Hz Flex 019-R is a great example of how flexible acoustic panels can make a difference – not only acoustically but also environmentally. It’s recycling in its finest form: invisible, efficient, and with a clear upgrade to the room’s functionality. Need a new acoustic ceiling for your project? Foam acoustic panels for an apartment in Torpedohallen, Holmen

Hz Acoustic acoustic ceiling in apartment in Torpedohallen, Copenhagen

Foam acoustic panels for an apartment in Torpedohallen, Holmen In the heart of Copenhagen’s maritime history lies Torpedohallen – a former concrete hall from the 1950s that today houses 67 modern apartments inspired by American lofts. Here, raw constructions meet generous ceiling heights and an informal elegance that is hard to find elsewhere in the city. In one of these characterful homes, Hz Acoustic has delivered a solution where our foam acoustic panels contribute to both functionality and aesthetics – without breaking with the original architectural spirit. The transformation of the former torpedo hall was carried out by the architecture studio Vandkunsten. With respect for the hall’s history and structural elements, the result is a housing project where the old and the new meet in a consistent, uncompromising design language. The apartments are open and spacious with an almost cathedral-like sense of scale, where light, concrete, and glass take center stage. But in such spaces, an acoustic challenge naturally arises – and that’s where Hz Acoustic came into the picture. When design demands discretion The apartment’s open floor plan and curved ceiling surfaces required an acoustic solution that could adapt to the architecture. The choice fell on Hz Flex 019-R, a flexible foam acoustic panel made from 20 mm recycled foam. The panels are specifically developed to follow organic and curved shapes – precisely like those characterizing the interior of Torpedohallen. With low material thickness and high sound absorption, Flex 019-R is ideal for homes where acoustic comfort is desired without compromising on aesthetics or ceiling height. The acoustic panels were then finished with Hz Acoustic Plaster 03, resulting in a smooth and uniform surface completely free of visible joints or seams. The finished ceiling thus appears as a calm, cohesive surface that does not compete with the architecture but instead blends in as a subtle and mood-enhancing element. An apartment full of life, light, and connection The apartment’s owners, Professor Mette Hartlev and Morten Kjærum, Director of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute, speak about their home with great enthusiasm. They describe a space that supports both privacy and togetherness – where the architecture invites reflection and where the acoustics contribute to the sense of being able to “breathe” within the rooms. In a home like this, with concrete, glass, and open layouts, poor acoustics can easily take over. But with the use of foam acoustic panels that adapt to the existing forms and a surface finish that creates visual calm, the result is a living space where both body and mind thrive. A project in harmony with its surroundings At Hz Acoustic, we are proud to have supplied the acoustic solution for this distinctive project. Not only because Torpedohallen is an iconic example of sustainable urban transformation, but also because it demonstrates how modern acoustics can be integrated into older constructions with respect for history and architectural integrity. Gypsum acoustic panels with a sharp finish in a reinterpretation of the four-winged farmhouse

Verna - Four-winged farmhouse

Gypsum acoustic panels with a sharp finish in a reinterpretation of the four-winged farmhouse When traditional building methods and modern functionality meet, something truly special happens. That is exactly the case with the Four-Winged Farmhouse project outside Odense, designed by the architectural firm Verna, where tradition and innovation go hand in hand – not least in the choice of ceiling solution. As a supplier to the project, Hz Acoustic contributed with an acoustic solution that supports the house’s aesthetic and functional ambitions. Using Hz Plus 027+ gypsum acoustic panels, finished with our Hz Acoustic Plaster 03, a smooth and seamless acoustic ceiling has been created that integrates elegantly into the bright, whitewashed rooms. A modern home with deep roots The four-winged farmhouse is a newly built residence inspired by traditional Danish farmsteads, characterized by a closed structure and four wings surrounding a central courtyard. With great precision and respect for the region’s building traditions, Verna has created a home where everything from materials to proportions draws on a vernacular expression – but interpreted in a contemporary and refined way. The home’s central kitchen and living area form the heart of the house. Here, open spaces, large windows, and carefully selected materials come together – and the ceiling plays a key role in tying it all into a cohesive whole. Even if it’s not the first thing one notices, the ceiling’s quality and surface make a decisive difference to the room’s overall atmosphere. Gypsum acoustic panels with precision and finesse For this project, the choice fell on Hz Plus 027+, a perforated gypsum acoustic panel pre-treated with acoustic felt. The panels ensure both effective sound absorption and an aesthetic expression that aligns with the architect’s vision of clean surfaces and discreet detailing. The final finish with Hz Acoustic Plaster 03 completes the look, resulting in a white, smooth acoustic ceiling that doesn’t draw attention but significantly contributes to the room’s acoustic comfort. A distinctive feature of this project is the use of edge trims, which create sharp endings and a sense of visual lightness. The ceiling seems almost to float above the rooms, underlining the house’s simple and precise architectural style. Integrated curtain rails are also seamlessly incorporated into the ceiling, adding another elegant detail that demonstrates how function and aesthetics unite perfectly. When acoustics and architecture go hand in hand Verna is known for its deep understanding of place, tradition, and materiality, and it has been a pleasure for us to deliver a ceiling solution that technically and aesthetically matches the ambitions of the project. Gypsum acoustic panels are often associated with standard solutions, but the four-winged farmhouse shows how, with the right products and skilled craftsmanship, it is possible to achieve a result that is both discreet, functional, and architecturally strong. At Hz Acoustic, we are proud to be part of this project, where both form and function have been considered all the way through – from gate to acoustic plaster. Acoustic ceiling without limitations at Restaurant Levi

Hz Flex

Acoustic ceiling without limitations at Restaurant Levi – A flexible acoustic ceiling that matches design, flavor, and conversation In the heart of vibrant downtown Copenhagen, Restaurant Levi has opened its doors to a dining experience beyond the ordinary. Here, the best of two worlds meet: Italian warmth and Japanese precision, united in a design universe that is as experimental as the menu itself. And just as important as the beautiful materials and subtle details is the atmosphere created in the room – where sound plays a decisive role. But how do you achieve good acoustics in a space full of architectural challenges – not least a ceiling filled with semi-circular domes and organic shapes? The answer: flexible acoustic panels from Hz Acoustic. Good acoustics without limitations Levi’s interiors are a dream for design lovers – and a nightmare for poor acoustics. The semi-circular ceiling shapes and hard surfaces created a clear challenge: how to maintain the aesthetic expression without compromising the sound environment. The solution was our Hz Flex acoustic panels, which, thanks to their flexibility, can easily adapt to both convex and concave surfaces. The panels were used across the entire ceiling, including the many elegant domes, and finished with Hz Acoustic Plaster 03, which provides a smooth, continuous surface without visible seams or joints. The result is an acoustic ceiling that is both invisible and indispensable. From empty space to sensory gathering place Behind Restaurant Levi stand Jesper Boelskifte, Peter Trauboth, and Mikkel Glahn – three experienced figures from Copenhagen’s restaurant scene who wanted to create a new kind of dining house: informal, yet of the highest quality. Designer Johannes Torpe was brought on board, and his vision was clear: the space should be felt – and it should live. The lively bar, the conversations at the tables, and the buzzing atmosphere are not coincidences. It took a ceiling capable of absorbing sound without interfering with the experience. With Hz Flex and Hz Acoustic Plaster 03, the result is a space where both food and conversation have room to unfold. An acoustic ceiling that follows the form Hz Flex is a flexible acoustic panel ideal for spaces where aesthetics and acoustics must go hand in hand. In Levi’s case, the flexible structure made it possible to adapt the ceiling in all its forms while ensuring that guests never have to raise their voices to be heard. Acoustics are often invisible, but at Restaurant Levi, they can be felt in the atmosphere: in the calm of conversation, the intimacy at the tables, and the ability to enjoy food, wine, and company without being overwhelmed by noise. Master the acoustics without compromise At Hz Acoustic, we love when acoustics and aesthetics come together. Restaurant Levi is living proof of how the right acoustic ceiling, using flexible acoustic panels, can elevate the entire experience. Not through grand gestures, but through precision, respect for design, and an understanding of how sound shapes a space. Do you have a project that demands both form and flexibility? Acoustic ceiling in a modern apartment in Aarhus C

Hz Flex in apartment, Aarhus C

Acoustic ceiling in a modern apartment in Aarhus C – Flexible acoustic panels provide peace and quiet with minimal loss of ceiling height When you build with concrete, you build strong – but the acoustics are not always ideal. That’s what Lars Mortensen, department director at Fredsted Studio A/S, noticed when he moved into his newly built apartment in Aarhus C. With large rooms, smooth surfaces, and panoramic views of the city, the setting offered modern comfort – but also echoing reverberation. The solution was an acoustic ceiling with flexible acoustic panels from Hz Acoustic. A discreet yet highly effective intervention that transformed the acoustics without disturbing the aesthetics. Acoustic ceiling with minimal loss of height The apartment ceiling is clad with Hz Flex 019 – a flexible foam panel only 20 mm thick. It was developed to create acoustic ceilings with minimal loss of ceiling height, making it ideal for modern apartments where you don’t want to compromise on vertical space. In this case, the panels were glued directly onto the existing concrete ceiling, making installation both simple and quick. Hz Flex 019 is particularly suitable for rooms with hard surfaces such as concrete, glass, and steel, where sound waves otherwise have free rein. The flexible acoustic panels significantly reduce reverberation time, creating a room that feels more comfortable to spend time in – without changing its visual expression. Smooth finish and hidden details The panels were finished with Hz Acoustic Plaster 03, resulting in a completely smooth surface without visible joints or seams. The outcome is an unbroken and elegant ceiling that fits naturally with the apartment’s modern style. An extra aesthetic feature in this project is the integrated curtain rails, running seamlessly and continuously along the walls with window sections. This creates a harmonious transition between wall and ceiling while keeping the panoramic view over Aarhus as the natural focal point. As Lars himself puts it: “It was important to me that the ceiling didn’t draw attention. I wanted to improve the acoustics without compromising the architectural expression – and it has worked perfectly.” A discreet solution with great impact An acoustic ceiling doesn’t have to make noise – visually or practically. With the right solution, aesthetics and function can work hand in hand. In this apartment, Hz Flex 019 and Hz Acoustic Plaster 03 have created a ceiling that both reduces noise and enhances the room’s qualities. Dreaming of calm and quiet without compromising on design? Elegant acoustic ceiling in the iconic Vipp Chimney House

Hz Acoustic Plus Acoustic Panel 027+ in Vipp Chimney House

Elegant acoustic ceiling in the iconic Vipp Chimney House In the heart of Nordhavn’s industrial charm lies an architectural gem with a remarkable history. Vipp Chimney House, built in 1902 as a water pumping station and reborn as a design icon, now serves as an exclusive guesthouse that unites industrial expression with modern luxury. Behind the transformation stands Studio David Thulstrup, who, with respect for the building’s original character, has created a complete living experience where design and function go hand in hand. For this unique project, we delivered a custom acoustic solution with a focus on both aesthetics and acoustic comfort. An acoustic ceiling that matches the architecture of the space In a room with 8.5-meter-high ceilings and an open view to the chimney through a large skylight, more than beautiful materials are needed. The sound environment must support the overall sense of calm and balance – especially in a home that is meant to feel both exclusive and relaxed. That’s why the choice fell on our Hz Basic 007 acoustic panels, combined with Hz Acoustic Plaster 03, which together create a smooth acoustic ceiling without visible joints or seams. Hz Basic 007 is a 49 mm acoustic panel made of mineral wool (40 mm) laminated with 9 mm glass granulate, glued directly onto a solid surface and then finished with Hz Acoustic Plaster 03.The panel is particularly suitable for projects that call for a robust, fully glued solution with high sound absorption and a smooth, uniform surface. The result is a visual calm that complements the house’s stringent aesthetics while ensuring a pleasant acoustic experience in the large, open spaces. The smooth ceiling enhances the overall architectural composition, where materials such as steel, terrazzo, and glass meet in a clean, cohesive expression. As part of the discreet and integrated design, built-in curtain rails have also been incorporated into the ceilings, elegantly blending into the overall look. Design and acoustics in perfect harmony Hz Basic 007 provides high acoustic comfort in a solid and stable construction. The solution is ideal for projects such as Vipp Chimney House, where maximum comfort and function are required without compromising the architectural vision. With the high ceilings and hard surfaces, the space could easily have been affected by echo and poor acoustics, but with the right acoustic panel and our fine plaster finish, the sound environment is now balanced and unobtrusive. When entering Vipp Chimney House, one immediately senses the special atmosphere – a balance between the raw industrial aesthetic and the warmth of a home. Everything is carefully curated: from the curved steel-framed doors and custom terrazzo floors to the artworks and Vipp products. In this context, our acoustic ceiling plays an invisible yet essential role. It supports the purity of the design and allows guests to enjoy the rooms without noise disturbance – whether preparing food in the open kitchen or relaxing on the sofa with a view of the old chimney. Vipp describes their guesthouses as design experiences you can check into – and that is especially true for Vipp Chimney House. It’s not just a place to stay; it’s a complete experience where architecture, materials, and atmosphere merge into one. With our smooth acoustic ceiling, we’ve helped make that vision possible.
