Divine calm with Hz Flex acoustic ceiling

– Flexible acoustic panels create peace in motion

How do you build a church that can be moved, inspire reflection, and invite presence – all at once? That is the question that Tiny Office and Aarhus Vestre Provsti have answered with a unique project: a mobile church where faith, presence, and sustainability come together in a single space – and where good acoustics have been an integral part of the concept from the very beginning.

The church, built in Aarhus, is made from Scandinavian materials, including both recycled and newly developed products. The mobile structure is not only a practical solution but also an architectural story about how the modern church space can be shaped and experienced in new ways. And with Hz Acoustic’s flexible acoustic panels installed on both walls and ceilings, it has been possible to create a calm and harmonious sound experience – even when on the move.

Flexible acoustic panels – perfect for organic shapes

For the church, we supplied Hz Flex 017, a 15 mm thick flexible foam acoustic panel ideal for complex surfaces. It can be installed on convex, concave, and organically curved surfaces, making it the perfect choice for Tiny Office’s innovative and curved church design.

Hz Flex 017 is lightweight, adaptable, and easy to work with, and when combined with our Hz Acoustic Plaster 03, the result is an acoustic ceiling and wall surface with a smooth finish free from visible joints or seams. The outcome is a calm, uniform surface that allows the room’s form and function to flow freely – without disturbing either the eye or the ear.

Acoustic ceiling with minimal loss of height

An important consideration in the project was achieving an acoustic ceiling with minimal loss of ceiling height. Since a mobile church offers limited space, it was essential to select a solution that optimizes both acoustics and spatial perception.

With a thickness of only 15 mm, Hz Flex 017 is one of the most space-saving solutions available. At the same time, it provides impressive sound absorption, making it ideal for compact spaces where acoustic quality remains a priority.

A space for reflection – wherever it is placed

As Provost Esben Andersen from Aarhus Vestre Provsti explains:

“We want people to come to the church, but as a church, we also want to be present and relevant to people. This is one way we can reach out to where people are.”

The church becomes a tool for communication and presence – and with the right acoustic ceiling, it also becomes a space where silence and reflection can find room. This is not only a technical achievement but also a sensory enhancement that makes the experience more complete.
