– Flexible acoustic panels provide peace and quiet with minimal loss of ceiling height
When you build with concrete, you build strong – but the acoustics are not always ideal. That’s what Lars Mortensen, department director at Fredsted Studio A/S, noticed when he moved into his newly built apartment in Aarhus C. With large rooms, smooth surfaces, and panoramic views of the city, the setting offered modern comfort – but also echoing reverberation.
The solution was an acoustic ceiling with flexible acoustic panels from Hz Acoustic. A discreet yet highly effective intervention that transformed the acoustics without disturbing the aesthetics.
The apartment ceiling is clad with Hz Flex 019 – a flexible foam panel only 20 mm thick. It was developed to create acoustic ceilings with minimal loss of ceiling height, making it ideal for modern apartments where you don’t want to compromise on vertical space. In this case, the panels were glued directly onto the existing concrete ceiling, making installation both simple and quick.
Hz Flex 019 is particularly suitable for rooms with hard surfaces such as concrete, glass, and steel, where sound waves otherwise have free rein. The flexible acoustic panels significantly reduce reverberation time, creating a room that feels more comfortable to spend time in – without changing its visual expression.
The panels were finished with Hz Acoustic Plaster 03, resulting in a completely smooth surface without visible joints or seams. The outcome is an unbroken and elegant ceiling that fits naturally with the apartment’s modern style.
An extra aesthetic feature in this project is the integrated curtain rails, running seamlessly and continuously along the walls with window sections. This creates a harmonious transition between wall and ceiling while keeping the panoramic view over Aarhus as the natural focal point.
As Lars himself puts it:
“It was important to me that the ceiling didn’t draw attention. I wanted to improve the acoustics without compromising the architectural expression – and it has worked perfectly.”
An acoustic ceiling doesn’t have to make noise – visually or practically. With the right solution, aesthetics and function can work hand in hand. In this apartment, Hz Flex 019 and Hz Acoustic Plaster 03 have created a ceiling that both reduces noise and enhances the room’s qualities.
Then flexible acoustic panels and an acoustic ceiling with minimal height loss are the way forward. Contact one of our installers to learn how we can tailor the solution to your home.
